Hi Jeffrey:
Two questions to clarify two statements in your post.
>improve our criterial knowledge...
How would you know/determine/decide if something written was an improvement to our critical knowledge, or, is any contribution an improvement?
>And, just to make the tacit explicit: I believe a research through design can contribute to our criterial understanding of one or more key concepts of life, and further that they do so qua designs. I can think of many arguments a practice-based researcher could use to articulate her or his project qua research, and ways that the research community can read design projects qua research, and this is one of them. There are others.
Can you please define "criterial understanding of one or more key concepts of life" and then give a few examples where research through design has been proven/demonstrated/shown to widely to contribute understanding to/of one of these key concepts? At this point I don't question you will be able to provide examples, I just can't envision what you mean so I'm asking for specifics to illustrate/clarify. If the illustrations/examples come from your own research so much the better.
Best...
Mike
