Tenure-Track Position
Assistant Professor: Inclusive Interaction Design

The Faculty of Design invites applications for a full-time tenure-track
teaching positions at the Assistant Professor level in Inclusive Interaction
Design. The position will commence on August 1, 2015 and is subject to
budgetary approval.

The undergraduate programs in Industrial Design and Graphic Design and the
graduate program in Inclusive Design is seeking candidates capable of
enhancing their existing and future curriculum and research areas in the
inclusive design of interactive digital products, environments, systems, and
services encompasses the full range of human diversity including ability,
language, culture, gender and age.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will:
* teach primarily in the Inclusive Design graduate program and Industrial
and Graphic Design undergraduate programs;
* assume a key role in the development of the curriculum and pedagogical
practices in relation to existing and emerging areas and course design and
delivery methods in the field of inclusive interaction design within the
above mentioned programs;
* participate in faculty and Program meetings and initiatives;
* maintain an active research agenda in inclusive design related to Web
based products and experiences;
* provide service to the Faculty- and University-wide governance system, as
well as service activities and outreach initiatives that contribute to the
academic life and profile of the University.
QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will:
* have a Masteršs degree,  with at least one degree in a design; a PhD would
be considered an asset;
* have experience teaching and/or research/scholarship/practice with
(inclusive) UX/UI framing, design and implementation;
* have knowledge and expertise in accessible curriculum and accessible
instructional design for delivering pragmatic undergraduate and graduate
curriculum in interactive and responsive coding for web and mobile;
* have understanding of scholarship in social justice and critical
disability studies;
* have knowledge of systems theory, change theory and theories of
innovation, and  the most current trends and technologies relating to
digital products and experiences;
* have experience with teaching and curriculum co-ordination, development
and evolution including current and emerging practices  in e-learning,
experiential learning, emergent teaching practices, Universal Design for
Learning and differentiated learning practices in a postsecondary context;
* have familiarity with and active engagement in the accessibility community
with an understanding of the ideological stances and cultural evolution of
the movement;
* have technical and theoretical expertise in accessibility principles and
legislation in jurisdictions across the globe, especially in Web and digital
accessibility;
* have experience and/or demonstrated familiarity with development
cycles/design processes across digital and physical environments;
* have expertise and scholarly practice in co-design and inclusive design
related to Web based products and experiences;
* have a proven record of teaching at the post-secondary level and show an
aptitude for innovative pedagogy and curriculum development, previous
experience teaching in interdisciplinary programs;
* previous experience supervising graduate students will be considered
assets;
* have outstanding communication, interpersonal and time-management skills;
* have demonstrated a commitment to the principles of equity and diversity,
and proven ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse
population.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications with
access to full benefits, and pension contribution after one year of service.
