I have been asked to look into stock and how we present it in our libraries and so would be very interested in any views.
I have recently seen an article outlining a new build in Denmark stating that the library was totally revamped so that it “looks more like a bookstore than a library”. It reorganized its materials by subject of interest, mixing up fiction and non-fiction. The article goes on to say that in 2013 more than one million people had visited the library, when the town is few than 200,000. If you have or are about to undertake work around this area I would be grateful for any information you could share, with particular interest in how its managed and tracked, what catalogue changes if any etc. but more importantly how your members received the change.
The library in Denmark seems to be organizing the library to enhance the browsing experience, going on their finding that the public don’t have specific titles in mind when they visit the library, but want to browse.
Many Thanks Gail
