Thanks Fiona,
In my experience the equivalent of 100 units (2.5 ug) of vitamin D daily will push up serum vitamin D level by 1 - 2 nmol/L, so vitamin D3 dose of 400 U (10 ug) daily will increase serum vitamin D level by 4 - 8 nmol/L only.

Just tidying the pile of papers on my
desk
JCEM 2012 Autier et al, systematic
review of influence of vit D supplementation on serum 25OHD
concentration
BMJ 2011, Winzenberg et al. Effect of
vit D supplementation on BMD in healthy children: systematic
review and metaanalysis
The AusD study – Am J Epidemiol
2013– going to see if they’ve published data yet
– population based study of the determinants of serum
25OHD concentration across a broad latitude.
I’m sure there are many
others.

It is
interesting to follow this discussion which is not’
news under the sun’ –haven’t seen one for
many weeks.
BUT the
IFCC - under the leadership of Ian Young – launched a
comprehensive Bergmeyer conference a couple of years ago
where these issues were thoroughly discussed.
The
complete proceedings for those interested is freely
available on the internet at
