Hi all,
I have been following the current discussion on digital mapping applications with much interest.
I would like to interrupt this discussion briefly to make a shameless plug:
If you are interested in these topics about technology in the field, you might want to consider coming to one of two Town Hall Meetings at GSA and AGU.
At GSA:
Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Best Practices and Community Standards for Including Field Data into our Current and Future Cyberinfrastructure. On Oct. 18th from 1:30-4:00pm in the Hyatt Regency, Plaza Ballroom B.
At AGU:
Town hall meeting on digital databases, standards, and practices for field data. Which is also proposed for the afternoon before the meeting officially starts, but the schedule has not been finalized yet.
Also, you may be interested in the session at AGU:
Cyberinfrastructure for field work: data standards, computer applications, instrumentation and best practices. More information about dates, etc. for this session will be forthcoming.
Thanks everyone.

Subject: Re: some other thoughts from the digital mapping discussion
...I'm already looking forward to the PICO (interactive posters) session on this topic during the EGU general assembly next year. Will you guys
(m/f) be bringing your devices and software for demonstration? Maybe we (EGU TS division, http://www.egu.eu/ts/structure/) could organize a one-day mapping field trip before or after the conference with the purpose of trying out each other's equipment and discussing and comparing functionality? Let me know if you are interested and I'll bring it up with the others.
(here's last year's session:

best,
Karen
