Apologies to this list. Several readers have properly criticized me for
ageism.
Age has nothing to do with it. My fault for putting in the word. My fault
for not understanding the implication.
So, I have rewritten the request, deleting all references to age. What we
care about is creativity and the ability to make a huge, positive impact.
Here are the relevant paragraphs, revised. As an older person myself, I
apologize.

=====================
We seek one or two bright, creative misfits to join our fledgling new
design program, the Design Lab at the University of California, San Diego.
Who are we looking for? Creative people who work in any area related to
design with a human focus (as opposed to technology or gadget). We want
people, ideally finished with coursework, but either researchers (in which
case a PhD in some discipline is appropriate) or practitioners, in which
case a terminal BA or MA is appropriate, ideally with
some practitioner experience.
We are not just seeking good people. We need people who will move us and
the field of design in exciting, unexpected ways. Often, these people are
characterized as misfits: considered brilliant by their peers and mentors,
but doing work that nobody knows how to classify.
