Spot on!
Nothing here was spamming - it WAS a little heated in places - given the
issues shouldn’t it be heated.
The position that "we believe in debate, but just not now, or just not in
this space, or just not in these terms, or just later, or just in a venue
which is more controlled, or just not in my inbox" - are all species of
quietism.
People have every right to make their views - as quietists - known. But
equally, I would claim that it is the responsibility of anyone who takes
the analysis of, and engagement with, media forms [including this one]
seriously, has to challenge that position.
We can do very little to affect the situation in Palestine
materially/directly - but if we as members of MeCCSA don't see a series of
exchanges [albeit brief/simple ones] which begin to interrogate the
mediation of that conflict as something we should engage with, then I
really don't understand what the discipline/association is for.
