P G Wodehouse's 'Blandings Castle' series of course has the
prizewinning sow 'Empress of Blandings'. The pig in Alan Bennet's play
and film, 'A Private Function' was named Betty. I don't personally
know of any real-life examples, beyond pedigree show animals and it
may be because of the common rule that you shouldn't name anything
you're planning to eat.
