Dear Filippo,
One can view the ³problem analysis² stage as part of a convention of
design thinking. That is, there are various conventions that are applied,
in different contexts, by different groups of people, for different
purposes etc.
Politicians, for example, might want to put another ring of analyisis
outside of Don¹s ³finding the proper problem to solve². And so on.
Calling these things ³conventions² is not a diminishing of their
significance. Conferences can often usefully be called conventions - such
conventions can even announce new understandings of what is to be treated
as part of the conventional understanding of a field.
So, on the basis of conventions, it is not that difficult to live with all
the various approaches to design thinking.
Is there one gestalt to rule them all? Is there an outer circle that
encompasses all the inner circles? Perhaps the convention of conventions
is the best we can do.
Cheers
keith
