Role description:
The Natural History Museum (NHM) requires an experienced data and information architect to design and implement digital data models, systems, practices and processes for the effective management of our scientific data and other key science information assets within a world-leading natural history museum with over 250 scientists.
Expected competencies:
1. Degree (or equivalent) in an Information, Technology or Natural Sciences discipline
2. Data/Systems/Business Analysis or Data Architecture qualifications, ideally with some Project Management foundations
3. Relational data modelling, covering conceptual, logical and physical data models, geospatial data, dimensional data models, Data Dictionary and Metadata
4. Proven Strategic, Project and Operational experience in the areas of Data Management, including team leadership within a complex and information rich environment
5. Data Science experience, working with taxonomies, ontologies, vocabularies and standards, ideally in a Science or technical environment
6. Experience developing and sustaining leading edge informatics and data science technologies in areas such as integration, Discovery and Business Intelligence / Analytics
7. A background or strong interest in the natural sciences and high throughput digitisation
8. Understanding of automated data transfer mechanisms and data cleaning techniques
9. Experience leading long term cultural changes in data management practice
10. Data admin, design, modelling and architecture
11. SQL databasing, programming and systems development skills
12. Good written and verbal communication skills to interact with Research Scientists, IT specialists, Data Curators, Managers and other stakeholders
13. Analytical and problem solving
14. Self-starter and team player
15. Project and Change Management, including working with substantial 3rd parties
