As you may know, Collections Trust are developing a SPECTRUM DAM
Partners scheme [1]. This will complement the existing SPECTRUM
Partners scheme, providing the community with a list of suppliers of
Digital Asset Management Systems ("DAMS") who meet the criteria.
While potential suppliers (e.g. existing SPECTRUM Partners) have had the
criteria pointed out to them, I am not aware of the wider community
being asked to comment. However, Collections Trust say "Any other
interested organisations or individuals with comments and suggestions
are very welcome to contribute. We have aimed to encourage feedback and
collaborative working on this to ensure we are providing a Partnership
that is valuable and of practical use to both DAM system providers and
to the sector." Therefore, I think it is important that the cultural
heritage community has the chance to review these criteria, and assure
itself that the resulting scheme will deliver a range of DAMS that are
fit for purpose.
I have reviewed the criteria myself against the core SPECTRUM DAM
document [2]. The results form part of a discussion on the Collections
Link SPECTRUM group [3], with the full detail in a blog post [4]. I
would welcome some review of, and comments on, my suggestions. The
resulting criteria will only be as good as the effort which we, as a
community, put into them.
