I’d strongly suggest that whatever you choose is not only easy to use but also has an export option into some kind of common format. So: XML, CSV, something like that. Many of the tools being suggested will have this, but some won’t. Your worst possible case scenario is putting a bunch of effort into cataloguing loads of records and then finding you’re locked in to a specific vendor or format that you can’t escape from…
In terms of specifics: I think it likely totally depends on the complexity of what you’re cataloguing - so number of fields but also whether you need “relational-ness” - i.e. one field depends on another (for example a drop down for “location” is pulling those fields from another place in the database with “locations” in it).
But overall, I’d look at usability and the export feature as being the two most important things to watch out for..
