Hi Fiona,
We have had this scenario on a couple of occasions, and have sent etonogestrel tests away. This is usually organised through the sexual health services who try and locate the implant and proof that it was put in. The analysis is usually arranged directly with the manufacturer of the implant, who send a courier for the sample. The result usually go straight back to sexual health.
Hope this helps

Subject: Lost implant!
Dear All,
I have just had a query from one of our doctors regarding measurement of etonogestrel also known as nexplanon or the implant.
One of their patients has presented 9 weeks pregnant confirmed on USS despite supposedly having the implant in situ. Physical examination of her arm has so far failed to locate it - I did not enquire about the "build" of this patient - and in order to report back to the manufacture and for her pregnancy they need to prove that it was put in. I didn't think it could be measured but having subsequently googled it, according to US based site, it can. I presume this would be by mass spec? Does anyone out there offer this assay? I did advise that she needs to have an USS of her arm first as if it is there then they would the imaging to go and remove it anyway but for future reference I was just interested to know if this assay is available in the UK?
Hope I haven't given too many of the female membership nightmares!!
