This has been asked before a few times but you may not have got the right results searching the archive for 'elk'. As you probably know, Cervus elaphus is known as 'red deer' in Europe whilst (confusingly) 'elk' are Alces alces on this side of the Atlantic.

Hello,
I am working on a small contract analysis of fauna from a protohistoric Plains site. I was wondering if anyone was aware of an available publication that documents the age and fusion sequence for elk limb bones.
I am familiar with white-tailed deer, but I assume elk's fusion sequence would vary somewhat from that recorded for their smaller, artiodactyl relative.
