Matt,
Sorry just picked up on this thread. The Rockfield Software package ELFEN is used considerably within the Structural Geology community and has capability to look at large strain structural geology evolutionary applications pretty much unlike any other package. It also contains a customised UI to enable relatively quick setup of 2D/3D projects.
ELFEN is a physics and Finite Element based predictive tool for assessing the structural evolution of geological regions of paleo time. It has been applied to simulate and understand a range of complex events such as the development of turtle structures, formation of regional and counter regional systems and the evolution of the many structural features associated with passive margins, salt diapirs, folds, fault and shear localisations.
Some of the key features include:- Sedimentation and erosion processes; Stress state and pore fluid pressure development; Material compaction, dilation and porosity change; Tectonic compressional/extensional responses.
