Hi Ken
I don't think it's a case of public libraries ignoring MOOCS. I'm well
aware of them and am sure others are too. We're hoping to run a session on
public libraries and MOOCs at this year's Librarycamp in November. I think
the problem is just location - it's 5 hours travel and v expensive to get
to London for events from Manchester.

The Open University organised a MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and
libraries conference help last week. I didn’t notice any *public*
librarians in the audience which was a shame as the potential for, and
role of public libraries was discussed. (See Twitter #mooclib ). In the
US some public libraries are getting involved. They believe MOOCs have
great potential in terms of the learning and digital inclusion agenda.
For background and links to relevant articles there is now a ‘MOOCs and
public libraries’ page on the Local Government Library Technology

If any UK public libraries are getting involved in MOOCs please let us
know. Anyone is free the edit the LGLibTech website (wiki)
