Hi Paul,
Not quite the same scenario as you but for what it's worth:
We host our own server and did this as a self-upgrade from R2009B R1.4 to 2011 R1.0 in January 2012. In fact, I did this twice - firstly for our training server and then production server. My notes from that time show that on both occasions, the Prep phase of the upgrade (when the system is still running) took around 6 hours - the longest I've ever experienced for a Millennium upgrade. The Commit phase (when the system is down) only took about 30 minutes. Those timings are going to depend to an extent on the spec of your hardware and network speed. In my case, I did the Prep phase during a day, and then continued with the Commit phase the following evening.
The post upgrade testing is straightforward. There's a good checklist on CSDirect http://csdirect.iii.com/documentation/posteventchecklist.shtml. I generally do the Commit/downtime phase in the evening when there's not many Library staff around. So I don't do every task on the checklist, just top level stuff like some searches in WebOPAC, ensuring all the Millennium modules start and a few basic activities in each one (e.g. for circ, retrieve a patron record, checkout an item).
Didn't experience any significant problems after the upgrade. Few bugs which were fixed by subsequent patches.
Good luck!
Karen

Subject: Millennium 2009B To 2011 Upgrade Experience
Importance: High
Hi fellow EIUG members,
We are in the early stages of planning the upgrade of our LMS from Millennium 2009B R1.5 to 2011 R1.4, with Innovative support remotely carrying out the process for us from the US.
I wanted to ask those of you that have already moved from 2009B to
2011 what your experience of this process was including the following details if possible:
a) If you used Innovative support to carry out the upgrade process, what was lead time from initial request until upgrade start.
b) How long did the actual upgrade process take and what length of service downtime was experienced.
c) How long and complicated was the post upgrade testing and verification.
d) Did you encounter any significant issues with the upgrade process or system operation afterwards.
e) How did you find the overall upgrade experience generally.
Many thanks in advance for your help with this task.
Regards,
Paul Thornton.
