check out the issue of Social Anthropology from 2010 edited by Susan Wright
- there you will get the state of the debate in anthropology and also a lot
of useful bibliography
also a good section on that subject in the 2000 volume Audit Cultures
edited by Marilyn Strathern
of the question on liberal institutions and academic freedoms, i would say
sociologists working in the tradition of Bourdieu do more on that, and the
role of intellectuals, intellectual autonomy within the academy.
