Dear Colleagues,

 

Media Lab(Shenzhen)Hunan University,China, is seeking for Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor/Senior lecturer/Researcher in Innovation Entrepreneurship, Industrial Design, UX design, New Media, Big Data, Sound Design, and Game design.

 

Brief

• Salary: We offer international competitive salary. In addition, Shenzhen municipal government will give tax-free allowance up to 1.5 million RMB (184K EUR) according to the candidate’s personal achievement.

• Full-time position based at Baoan campus in Shenzhen, China. 

• Minimum 1 year contract.

 

. Founded in Feb 2013, Media Lab (Shenzhen), Hunan University is the first English-teaching design institution in Mainland China. The core team members are from Nokia Research Center Shenzhen. The aim is to pilot an open “RDB” (Research + Design + Business) model in Shenzhen eco-system by bridging innovation entrepreneurship, start-up incubation and trans-disciplinary higher education. 

 

. Hunan University, dating back to Yuelu Academy's foundation in 976 A.D., is one of the four famous Academies of the Song Dynasty.  Hunan University is honored as an "Ancient Millenarian Academy, Famous Centennial University". It is one of the key universities affiliated with the Ministry of Education and is now included in the state's "Project 211" and "Project 985" for priority investment and construction.  

 

. Having the highest real GDP per capita in China, Shenzhen is the world’s capital of electronic product manufacturing. Shenzhen ecosystem is famous on its openness, fast speed and adaptability. Shenzhen is a 30-year-old city. The average age of Shenzhen citizens is only 29. It is regarded as innovative engine of China because Huawei, ZTE, Tencent (Top1 internet company in China), and Pingan (Top 1 insurance company in China) are all originated from Shenzhen. 70% of China’s venture capitals are in Shenzhen. In addition, Shenzhen has about 80,000 design professionals and more than 6,000 design agencies.

In a word, Shenzhen has everything but a world-class design school. This situation prevents Shenzhen from upgrading into a truly innovative city. So Shenzhen government would like to invest the best resources to build a world-class design school through international collaboration. One of the lab’s responsibilities is to find a foreign partner university and initiate a China-foreign joint design school in Shenzhen in the next 5 years.

 

. The Lab offers a range of MA, MFA, Joint MSc. with UK. and Ph.D. programs in Innovation Entrepreneurship, Game Innovation, Sound Design, Big Data for Design, Communication Design, Industrial Design, and Media Design.

 

Responsibilities

 

. Initiating and guiding student start-ups

. Developing learning materials.

. Coordination and delivery of subjects and courses conducted by the discipline. 

. Supervision of post graduate research candidates and convening units of study and managing programs of study.

 

Required skills & experience

 

. Doctoral degree or ongoing doctoral study towards near completion in Design, New Media, Business, Computer Science, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, and other related discipline are preferred. A Master degree is acceptable if you have outstanding professional records.

. Good English skills in both oral communication and academic writing.

. Experience in start-up incubation or starting an undertaking is a plus.

       

. This role also requires that you have good research competences, communication skills and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a trans-disciplinary environment
