I think it is a spoof article - a true Daily Mail story would include the effect any of these tests would have on house prices.

Excellent and balanced response. But possibly the worst thing about the DM article was the glaring omission.
Not a single mention of Vitamin D anywhere in the article!!
It is unthinkable that in these enlightened days that the popular press cannot find at least some reason for including this in any story that relates in any way to Pathology topics.
Shame on them.

Subject: Laboratory medicine according to the Daily Mail
Daily Mail, Tuesday June 18 2013, page 43:
Catch every bug going? A top-up of fresh blood could be the answer
"The GP ordered a test of her immunoglobulin levels. . . . This can be measured in a simple blood test costing less than £5 (it's the same test used to check for anaemia or infections, and is known as a full-blood count immunoglobulin, or FISH test)"
"The test is measured as immunoglobulin per litre, with 'normal' ranging from six to 16 per litre. Her result was four."
"The treatment needs to be repeated regularly because antibodies have a short life. Within three weeks, half will have died."
Anybody fancy enlightening Jenny Hudson?
David
