Subject: snap: down and out in a country town
Is it Wednesday?
My wife says it's Thursday.
The dog doesn't care.
My wife sees a mouse
run across the kitchen floor
each night late.
I don't see the mouse.
The dog snores loudly
and doesn't care
either way.
The women at the bar
talk footy and the size of
the PM's arse.
Men sink deeper
into their mid-afternoon beer
with a sneer.
The dog craps
in the driveway of
the bottle-department.
It's sunny there.
When you're
out of work and out of luck
in an outback town
you couldn't care
either.
