Dear All
I have no particular axe to grind, I'm a relatively new professional and have a lot of respect for John Dolan, Biddy Fisher and Annie Mauger but I'm really surprised not to see the word "library" in any of the suggested options. Like many, I strongly identify with the terms "library" and "librarian" and want to know who is responsible for leading us all by the nose in this way - I don't remember seeing any attempt to consult the membership on potential names. If the future possible names of our organisation were genuinely decided by some consultants or by an elite group at the top without reference to the membership, and "If" this is an irreversible situation (ie. not just a case of testing the wind) then I'll have lost faith in the organisation and will leave. People can develop a loyalty to words, irrational though it is, and if the organisation abandons the word that the vast majority of us identify most strongly with then you'll see the membership continue to decline despite all the good efforts towards modernisation.
Kind regards
