Dear Colleagues;
Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone with a PhD relevant to Designing or Design Thinking would post the bibliography for their dissertation to the reference data base that Terry might host (Could the Australian Government support it, Terry?)
If each such bibliography was linked to an abstract of the Dissertation and was tagged by the same keywords, each bibliography could be personalized, situated and given context without getting in the way of targeted searching. If the dissertation, or the URL to it or its publisher, if it has one, could be posted on academia.edu and linked to the database, then the dissertation itself could be accessed from the bibliographic database. This would take advantage of and support the spread, reach, and growth of academia.edu which appears to be the first mover in the social/scholarly networking of academia. The combined access might also lure more publishers for books about design thinking and designing based on dissertations.
To make sure that all the networked resources are networked with the design community in mind and that they interact smoothly, securely, and efficiently with the bibliographic database, it seems important to have guidance from a steering committee of people from the design world who have the requisite knowledge, experience, and connectivity (Mads, Kari-Hans, Terry, David Durling, Women stakeholders, etc. Maybe even Marissa Mayer, Yahoo's CEO, whose expertise in user experience at Google makes her one of us, could be engaged as a sponsor, keynote speaker, or whatever she, or Yahoo, wanted to contribute.)
This is beginning to feel like the Homebrew Computer Club except our Silicon Valley is global and virtual. (See Ogle, 2007: Smart World, Chapters 4 and 5)
Fired up!
Chuck
Terry: Great offer below! Can you convert bibliographies in PDF to Endnote? If so don't hesitate to do it to mine. If you can't, I think I can save it from Pages as a Word file. My try with Zotero couldn't get off the ground - too buggy.
