To Colleagues Architects and Industrial Designers
I have just come across this document:
http://www.wipo.int/freepublications/en/designs/930/wipo_pub_930_2012.pdf ,
issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization (
http://www.wipo.int/about-wipo/en/).
On p. 55 of the document, I read that WIPO is:
"A United Nations specialized agency dedicated to the promotion of
innovation and creativity for the economic, social and cultural development
of all countries, through a balanced and effective international IP system.
Established in 1967, WIPO’s mandate is to promote the protection of IP
throughout the world through cooperation among states and in collaboration
with other international organizations."
And it is written on p. 52:
"Intellectual property (IP): Refers to creations of the mind: inventions,
literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images and designs used in
commerce. IP is divided into two categories: industrial property, which
includes patents, trademarks, industrial designs and
geographical indications of source; and copyright, which includes literary
and artistic works such as novels, poems and plays, films, musical works,
artistic works such as drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures, and
architectural designs. (...)"
On p. 51, it says:
"Industrial design: Industrial designs are applied to a wide variety of
industrial products and handicrafts. They refer to the ornamental or
aesthetic aspects of a useful article, including compositions of lines or
colors or any three-dimensional forms that give a special appearance
to a product or handicraft. (...)"
I would like to know how many on this list agree - or disagree - with the
above, as related to this official categorization and definition of
Architecture and Industrial Design.
Thanks a lot for your comments.
