There was an error in the original release file which was corrected (21/08/2012) and widely publicised (on this list I believe) The latest units can be seen on www.ychi.leeds.ac.uk/pmipunits . One issue is that a new file was not released with the last PBCL update from TRUD but a new one is expected soon.
DH and CfH are working at the moment on a fuller release of the PBCL UoM table. If you have an interest in this area and specialist knowledge on units (for example in rare tests) then you can can contribute to this work by reviewing units on the link below and entering your views using the 'Add Comment' button. Such views will be taken into account in agreeing the standard unit.

The outputs of the Harmony project have been taken into account and we are working collaboratively on the roll-out of standardised approaches - for example on the proposed switch to g/L fro Haemoglobin measurement.
Best wishes

Subject: Re: Unit of measurement - serum urate
We changed to umol/L some time ago - it would be crazy to back to mmol/L.
Depending where you look in the PBCL output you find different units. I believe the candidate in PBCL is for umol/L.
Perhaps others know better.

Dear All,
Could somebody enlighten me please on the long-term plan re reporting UoM for serum urate?
We currently use umol/L, as quoted by Pathology Harmony UK, yet the most recent PBCL Read Code output to include UoM (May 2012) states mmol/L as the desired/optimal unit.
This discrepancy was also highlighted recently by the mistake made when WEQAS asked, 'in accordance with the Pathology Harmony Guidelines regarding the standardisation of urate units', for urine urate results to now be submitted in umol/L, instead of, as intended, for serum urate results to now be submitted in umol/L; admittedly a mistake WEQAS quickly rectified.
There is 'perceived' pressure to adopt the Read Codes as soon as possible; yet no-one wants to make changes only to have to change back again at a later date. Thanks very much,
Liz
