Dear Terry,
just as the category "time" may be determined in the analysis of any and all thoughts; so the category "space" may be determined in the analysis of any and all thoughts; just as the category "identity" can be determined in the analysis of any and all thoughts.
This understanding was part of Kant's project that is still with us.
Simply pulling "identity" out of the mix is what some bad science does.
Try taking "time" out and see where you get?
Then take "space" out and see where you are?
I agree that claims for personal identity are usually overstated and are mostly not used correctly but that is not to say that there are no identities that could and perhaps should be determined in any and all accounts of the worlds we experience.
Try screwing a nut without identity on to a bolt without identity using a thread without identity etc.
Just collapsing identity because it is always everywhere does not mean that it is useless - equally, asserting personal identity because it is often an available position is not much use.
cheers
keith
