Yes I agree broadly with what has been said before.
However, I must point out that this newspaper article is about a longitudinal survey of CHEMISTRY PhD students. The situation in design might be quite different. My own impression is that the gender balance at doctoral workshops in design has been good, and recruitment over the past couple of years has had equal gender numbers apply and be accepted.
I was just thinking about my students that have completed successfully, and the majority go into academic careers. Several have gone on to significant teaching/research or research leadership positions in various universities, but I do not see this as a measure of success. PhD holders are needed in businesses too.
I wondered if anyone has evidence broadly from the design sector? I imagine that it might be quite a range of possibilities from say engineering through to applied arts.
