medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
somehow i find the idea that the Middlevils associated Sebastian's arrows with
the plague because they "knew" that Apollo's arrows brought "plague to the
Greek camp in Iliad" to be something of a Diffusionist Stretch.
and one which makes, say, a Jungian explanation appear to be Simplicity
Itself.
despite initial appearances, Disheveled Diffusionism is frequently in need of
a good close Shave with Fr. Ockham's Razor.

but might not there be a connection between Sebastian's arrows and plague and
Apollo's arrows which bring plague to the Greek camp in Iliad (Bk I) and in
other Greek myths? The gist of the Iliad was known in the Middle Ages.
