I was periodically following what was going on via Twitter and it sounded like a really interesting event. There was a lot of discussion about the use of social media in archaeology at the IfA conference last week both in the IMSIG's session (as you might expect) and wider especially the graphics session which included an excellent paper on the subject by Lorna Richardson from UCL. One of the contributors to the IMSIGs session was Mike Ellis the author of 'Managing and Growing an Cultural Heritage Web Presence: A Strategic Guide' which will be very useful to any HERs drawing up a social media strategy. I'm already a social media convert and I'm convinced that it's essential for both engaging new audiences and maintain communication with existing ones as users change there preferred communication channels.

To balance Dave's view, I thought that the day was a great success - thanks to Jane, Jude and all the facilitators. I thought that it made old luddites like me realise the potential of social media in getting our message across, as well as its relevance in the wider challenge of engaging with local communities, which before had seemed a bit daunting.
I have come back a convert and will be getting into Twitter as soon as I can get a smart phone - I knew there was a catch somewhere!
Thanks for putting on a really useful day.

If they are as dismal as the day itself then no thank you, at least it was Birmingham so there is always Burne-Jones.
