Gosh - takes me back! We used to measure oestrogen in all sorts of zoo animals including Chi Chi (for those less ancient she was a panda at London zoo!) in my first job in a private clin chem lab. We ran it our old analyser for pregnancy E2's using Kober reagent, now going home feeling positively prehistoric!

I visited the Edinburgh Zoo last week where there was much anticipation of these events. Apparently the samples are analysed at Chester Zoo!

Anyone else following the giant pandas in Edinburgh? The TaT isn't too impressive:
> An Edinburgh Zoo spokeswoman told the BBC Scotland news website: "The urine samples we took on Monday morning came back at 21:00 on Monday with results saying Tian Tian had not ovulated.
> "However our Chinese panda expert checked her on Tuesday morning and he said she had ovulated in the night and because our tests take about 12 hours to get back to us we could not wait so the pandas have been put together."
