Fil,
If I were you I would post the announcement and let the list members decide about its validity and value. Admittedly there is a bit of chutzpa in the wording, but so be it. I will certainly not shoot the messenger. In fact, your role is not to be a gate keeper, or at least I have never seen it that way.

Hi everyone,
I received the message below from someone at Exhibitor Magazine, who asked
me to post this on my designcalls blog.
I'm undecided. The "conference" is outside the usual range I'm used to
seeing so I honestly don't know.
I get the feeling this is more of a commercial trade show sort of thing,
but I could be wrong.
And I would argue the accuracy of the phrase "world's only
multidisciplinary design conference."
Given that the designcalls blog seems to be attracting a respectable
following, I don't want to jeopardize it by posting things that might be
just commercial advertising.
Should I post it?
Cheers.

GRAVITY FREE 2012, the world's only multidisciplinary design conference,
will present twenty world-class designers, each speaking on a different
design discipline, May 1-2, 2012, at Venue SIX10 at the Spertus Institute,
Chicago.
GRAVITY FREE<http://www.exhibitoronline.com/t.asp?p=gravityfree/index.asp&e=cision&s=2052Gfb>is
a two-day conversation with the world's most inspiring design thinkers
and doers. This world-class event is designed to break attendees out of
their daily routine of familiar ideas, and instead connect them with the
most diverse and fearless designers who are changing the way we see the
world.
This year's theme – "Outlaws and Icons" – is a riveting program of twenty
of the world's most fearless designers whose passion and personal vision
takes them outside convention – where breaking the rules often produces
breathtaking results. No surprise: Outlaws often become icons.
