Dear Colleagues: I am searching for metric comparisons for a complete humerus from odd contexts in just post-conquest Peru so, AD 1550. I am working from a series of excellent photographs because of export issues. Morphologically it is most similar to Ovis, which is plausible from a biological and historical perspective. (The other possibility is a cervid, but the characters of the trochanters on the proximal end suggest sheep). My problem is that it is very long, about 210 mm. I have no comparative material longer than 125 mm. Can anyone guide me on standards for the largest sheep they are familiar with? Is the size enough to exclude the possibility of sheep? I know that there are larger breeds that have been bred for specialized environments.
Thanks for your insights.
