If they were to follow the 20 working days requirement then they should
receive it in time to commit evidence (although admittedly it would be
tight). We do have some data at Voices for the Library for a few
authorities that we can bung on our site, but we only have a very small
handful. Maybe CILIP could go to work on this and make them all
available??

Subject: Re: Help Everyone Respond to Select Committee Inquiry into
Public Library Closures (in England)
One thing which could tip the balance in the Inquiry is the setting up
of "Quick" information point which all the different user and protest
groups can turn to in order to get up-to-date and accurate statistics
about the performance of their own Library authority. Accurate
information will enable user groups to submit a much more effective
case, yet many of the local authorities (particularly those closing
libraries) are unlikely to co-operate with their readers by responding
quickly with figures relating to use, expenditure and performance, and
CIPFA statistics are not available online. Experience of FOI requests
suggests that people are unlikely to get the information they need in
time to meet the Select Committee timetable.
A central, authoritative information point, with widely advertised
contact details is the first step in ensuring that people who use
libraries can make an informed and carefully argued case. Here surely
is a task CILIP could take up!

CILIP will be submitting evidence to the Inquiry into Public
Library Closures (in England) recently announced by the Culture, Media
and Sport Select Committee.
We would welcome greatly the contribution of CILIP members.
