The BMJ Evidence Centre provides evidence-based clinical decision support
systems to enhance healthcare delivery for healthcare professionals,
researchers, health service planners, and patients.
The Evidence Team is a new group that will sit at the core of the BMJ
Evidence Centre. It will act as the source of the best available valid,
relevant, and appropriate evidence upon which the BMJ Evidence Centre’s
products and services are based. These new positions provide candidates
with the opportunity to help shape the direction and use of evidence. The
Evidence Team will provide active surveillance of the published literature
capturing new information with rigorous search, appraisal and analysis.
Evidence Team Lead
Both fixed term and permanent contracts
Grade 4
The role
The Evidence Lead will act in a leadership position to shape and drive the
core capabilities of search, appraisal and analysis of new clinical
evidence.
The person
You will have experience of leading a team which interprets information for
use in specified health care contexts and be able to make meaningful
conclusions based on data analysis. You will be able to set standards for
qualitative and quantitative data analysis. You will be responsible for
delivery of continuous content improvement and updating. You will have a
clear vision for how data can be presented, visually, textually and
verbally, in order to drive decision making. You will also act as a skills
lead, helping to develop and shape career paths for both Evidence Analysts
and Evidence Scanners.
Qualifications:
Essential: undergraduate degree in medicine, pharmacy or life sciences with
a strong mathematical component.
Desirable: post-graduate qualification (e.g. PhD, MPH, MSc) in
evidence-based health care or medical statistics
Evidence Analysts
Both fixed term and permanent contracts
Grade 5
The role
The role of the Evidence Analyst will be to deliver the direction set out
by the Evidence Lead in the assessment and analysis of the best available
evidence to support the products and services developed by the Evidence
Centre. You will have experience in reviewing and appraising research
articles, systematic reviews and guidelines. You will be able to extract
relevant qualitative and quantitative data with analysis and have the
ability to present the results in an appropriate format, as required.
The person
You will be familiar with evidence based health care and have experience of
working as part of a team who interprets information for use in specified
health care contexts.
Qualifications:

Evidence Scanners
Both fixed term and permanent contracts
Grade 6
The role
The role of Evidence Scanner is to work as part of the wider Evidence Team,
searching and extraction relevant health care evidence. You will be
required to scan a variety of sources to identify relevant evidence on a
regular basis. You will be familiar with literature searches and concepts
of evidence based health care, in order to apply predetermined criteria to
filter search results and populate templates. You will be on hand to
provide supporting analysis as required as part of career progression.
