The Awards celebrate and reward excellence in the use of moving image and related media in education. Shortlisted entries will be showcased at the Learning on Screen Awards ceremony at the BFI Southbank on Thursday 26 April 2012.

This year the categories include:
*Student Production Awards sponsored by Avid
Outstanding productions, on any theme, made by students as part of a course or training activity. Winners receive Avid Media Composer 5 software.
*General Education Awards
Content delivered as general factual and documentary production that is judged to be valuable for use in learning (broadcast, non-broadcast & multimedia).
*Courseware & Curriculum Awards
Content created for use among specific target groups of students who need to obtain particular knowledge and skills or who are at a specific stage in a course of learning.
*Education In-house Production Award NEW 2012
This category relates to a non-broadcast production by an individual, team or unit that is permanently employed by a qualifying education institution (either HE, FE or school).
