Hi All,
First off, how lovely it is to have somewhere to share ponderings of this nature...
I was having a morning cup of coffee in a wintry but decidedly sunny garden in Devon this morning and was wondering about whether and to what extent a theory becomes a 'law'. Physics is full of laws help to predict outcomes, and I wonder when (how,if, etc!) does a social theory become a law?
On an aside note, I have also been wondering to what extent a context can also be a mechanism to individuals, insofar as it (context) not only provides them with resources, but also helps their reasoning so they can make the most of the mechanism on offer... in my instance (women's centres offering a one stop shop to reduce reoffending and prevent offending) I am wondering whether the context (women's centre) is actually the mechanism too, insofar as through providing stable supporting relationships alongside more practical visible support (resources) such as health care, housing and debt advice etc it fosters reasoning within it's clients that makes them (able to) more likely to take up support on offer... so the mechanism is actually the context, which in turn creates the mechanism.... not sure if that's clear...
thoughts anyone?
with regards
Rebecca
