Dear Toon
I am reading Edgar Morin for my current research, and I'm looking in design
theory, a corresponding item to his Complexity Theory. I have found
interesting points. Here are some that may be of interest to your approach:
Morin says: replacing the simplistic design drawn as linear causality -
predictable future, by a complex view, since the past makes its sense of
history from posterity. Effects and counterfeit intertwine: each new
approach of the present modifies the past. The knowledge of the present
requires knowledge of the past, which requires knowledge of the present.
Milton Santos, a Brazilian geographer and researcher and writer says:" the
system of objects and the system of actions interact. On one hand, the
system of objects determines how the actions take place and on the other
hand, the system of actions motivates the creation of new objects or the
innovation of existing objects.
This is how the space gets its dynamic to be transformed. "
Morin says: It is illusory to imagine that we know the present. But if you
do not know the present, it is hard to think of the future. However
innovations, inventions and creations of the future depend on the present.
Part of the future already exists and will operate the actions, interactions
and feedbacks that make up the present.
So, I think we can see the products as a part of the present and as links
with the past and the future. And, maybe, this point of view may help us to
be a little more responsible with the future.
Best regards

Hi all,
You may remember me form earlier threads, I am a product designer (in my
last year of my study) and have to think about what I would like to show
the world at my graduation.
I started out with the concept of happiness and products .......
I looked at "the motivation of the designer" ........
And from these ideas I came to look at a product (that most take as an end
point of the design) as an intermediate product, that will find its final
form with the user.......
Does anyone have any other illustrations or theories on this subject.
Thanks for you valuable time.
