Dear John,
I guess you will know of the recent project on teaching risk at the IoE (Dave Pratt, Phillip Kent, et al.); see
http://www.riskatioe.org/
and also the work of David Spiegelhalter at Cambridge, e.g.
http://www.rssenews.org.uk/articles/20110719
Also, Joan O'Hagan's workshop at the recent Adults Learning Mathematics conference (ALM-18) in Dublin was useful in formulating "the problem" for the reasoning of most adults, when faced with reasoning about risk; she would certainly be able to discuss suggestions for possible exercises in your Risk Zone.

Subject: [PSCI-COM] "Risk" in science and mathematics
I and several colleagues are putting together ideas for a "Risk Zone"
in a new maths and science museum.
The idea is to show how scientific ideas tie in with everyday
perceptions of hazard and risk.
I'd welcome GEMmers comments on:
(a) How has this idea been dealt with in the past? What have you seen
in other museums?
(b) ideas to develop now.
Thank for any help and support.
JOHN BIBBY
PS: Please let me know if you'd like to work on this with us.
