Hi everybody,
We've been doing some housekeeping here in Sheffield and the DRS 2008
Conference website and the temporary proceedings site that was set up at
the time of the conference have now been closed.
The full proceedings and supporting information like the call for papers
and conference programme are all permanently archived on the Sheffield
Hallam University Research Repository, as they have been since 2009.
You can find the conference home page at http://shura.shu.ac.uk/drs2008/
but, most importantly, it shows up on the first page of hits on Google
if you search for "DRS 2008". Also all papers can be found via Google
Scholar searches as the repository conforms to all the relevant open
access conventions.
I'm very pleased with the way this has worked out, thanks to our
excellent library staff here in Sheffield, and I'd like to encourage all
of you to ensure that you use your local institutional repository for
both your own publications and papers from any events that you are
involved in. It's one of the quiet revolutions that huge volumes of
refereed papers are now openly available on the web to all scholars,
regardless of their ability to pay and regardless of where they were
first published.
best wishes from Sheffield, home of the Bessemer Converter
(Henry Bessemer did not allow open access to his intellectual property
and earned, at today's prices, more than UK100m in royalties)
