I have been working with the artisans who have been evacuated from the reserve forest. Its interesting to observe their lifestyle and simple solutions they create for comfortable working / living etc. The attitude and respect for nature and materials.
Studying the cognizant ability to design effective products and services is what amazes me. There are certain instances wherein I would tend to apply these traditional best practices in to designing services for urban demands in a structured manner, In this journey "Design Methodology" gets refined and evolved.
Would this study and application be called as research

We can talk about research assistants and mean that they are conducting the work of the lab/clinic/workshop/studio but not doing research. This doesn't stop them from assisting but if they start making research decisions (exceeding the protocols) then they are invading (entering) the realm of research. Of course we can ask them to do this which is some of what happens in the training (induction) process of being a PhD candidate.
