Hi all,
To follow up on Jonathon Allen's message about Augmented Reality (AR) in the
commercial sector, earlier this week I read this article about a new iPhone
app called Popcode (known in the trade as a *Markerless Augmented
Reality*platform). This application lets you add additional content
onto any image
(providing it has enough texture) and doesn't require black-and-white
markers to be able to add AR content. Here is the article in FastCompany:

Or good morning from where I am!
One of the best places to start your search would be looking at the work
of Prof. Mark Billinghurst at the Human Interface Technology Laboratory
New Zealand:

A lot of the work in the area is for exhibition and now increasingly for
advertising.
We used Augmented Reality (AR) as part of our undergraduate degree show
exhibition a couple of years ago to showcase animated three dimensional
CAD models by pointing a camera at a 2D printed poster. We also produced a
degree show booklet with AR tags, so that the pages came to life when
viewed through a camera on a mobile device. Paul Kouppas, who organised
this part of our exhibition, has since undertaken some research in the
commercial sector (see www.exploreengage.com), and there is certainly huge
potential for this type of media for a number of applications.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Jon
