THE FUTURE OF JOURNALISM
Thursday 31st March at 6.00 p.m. in the New Academic Building
BBC Radio 4 Media Show presenter Steve Hewlett chairs a debate of the motion that:
‘The free market cannot deliver ethical journalism’
Taking part will be:

John Lloyd, Director of Journalism at the Reuters Institute, Oxford
Kevin Marsh, Editor of Journalism, BBC College of Journalism
Guido Fawkes, political blogger, order-order.com
Angela Phillips, EastLondonLines.co.uk & Goldsmiths
Gavin MacFadyen, Director, Centre for Investigative Journalism
Richard Peppiat, Ex-Daily Star Reporter
As the coalition government proceeds to grant Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation the right to total control of BSkyB, and the investigation into the tabloid phone-hacking scandal is reopened, there could be no better time to debate the future of journalism, and whether its ethics need stricter control than the whims of the market. Join that debate with some of Britain’s leading authorities in the world of journalism and invited guests from across the field to have your own say on the issue.
This event is FREE. There will be a drinks reception afterwards.
