I had reason to correspond with our neurology team when an oligoclonal band request revealed evidence of intrathecal immunoglobulin synthesis in a 77 y.o. man whose clinical diagnosis was ' herpes zoster radiculopathy'. VZ PCR was negative. Tests are requested as a routine without a plan about how to use the results. This creates waste when they are negative and problems when they are positive,
