medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear All,
For next summer's International Medieval Congress at Leeds (July 11-14, 2011) a recent withdrawal has created a vacancy in a session entitled Writing in a Changing World: Language, Culture, and Nationhood in the Central Middle Ages. The two remaining papers are on nationhood and instruction from the past in Geoffrey of Monmouth's _Historia Regum Britanniae_ and on the _Hávamál_'s take on Icelandic cultural identity through its selection of included texts.
The paper that has been withdrawn was to have dealt with the linguistic choices (Welsh or Latin) of eleventh- and early twelfth-century Welsh writers. But the session title is mutable and a replacement paper need not address linguistic matters.
Proposals (ca. 100 words) should be addressed to the International Medieval Congress at <[log in to unmask]> and should note at the top that they are for session 1329.
Best wishes for the holidays,
John Dillon
