For all those working in this area have you thought about submitting an application to the Libraries Change Lives Award? Entries are due in on 7 February so you have plenty of time to work on your application. This is the type of work which needs further recognition.

Subject: Increasing library access to people with learning difficulties
I recently posted this request, offering to summarise any replies – so here goes
I am working in partnership with a group of people with learning difficulties to increase awareness of library services. We have carried out some mystery shopping and customer feedback and are beginning work on a guide to make using the library as straightforward as possible.
I’m very interested to find out if anyone else has done similar work or has produced guides or information.
Devon Libraries have surveyed Speaking Up groups across the county to get feed back on services.
Bexley Libraries are currently working with a group on the promotion of services to ensure that all publicity is clear and appropriate.
Swansea Central Library is working in consultation with Adult Services, involving carers when promoting services for maximum take up. They have developed tours and a guide and are making joining the library as straightforward as possible.
Leicestershire Libraries have produced a leaflet for people with learning disabilities.
Basingstoke Discovery Centre, opening soon, will be offering a programme of learning opportunities and study skills and will incorporate a Learning Disability Collection area.
Lancashire Libraries are producing a video / DVD guide for people with learning disabilities.
Thanks to all for sharing their experiences.
