At the University of Aberdeen we are currently planning and preparing books for moving into a new library building in summer 2011. We plan to move to the new building only items where there is a record of use over e.g. the past 5 years. The remaining material will be moved to a store. We won't be moving complete sections by classmark, rather we need to identify individual items on the library shelves to be picked by removal contractors. We want to find a way of visibly marking, preferably on the book spine, the items that are to be moved.
We have previously used various stickers and tape for other stock moves with limited success. We had thought of marking shelf labels with highlighter pen but find the pen ink rubs off easily from many of our shelf labels.
If you have found a good way of marking books that is reasonably permanent and not costly can you let us know, please?
Thanks
Sheona
