About the Seminar
The seminar covers an outline of what Tyne & Wear Smarter Choices is currently engaged in, and also some key pointers about the issues involved in promoting sustainable transport and travel planning, and how to overcome them.
About the Speaker
Stephen's qualifications include a BEng in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from Newcastle University(1990), a PGCE in Physics from Newcastle University (1991) and an MSc in Environmental Management from Sunderland University (2001). After an initial career in IT, Stephen changed career path in 2001 and got involved in sustainable transport, briefly with the South East Northumberland Rural Transport Partnership, and then a 5-year period with Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity (www.sustrans.org.uk<http://www.sustrans.org.uk>). Stephen has worked since 2008 at Nexus, the Tyne & Wear Public Transport Executive, managing the Tyne & Wear Smarter Choices<http://www.gosmarter.co.uk/> project, whose remit includes promotion of Public Transport but also cycling, walking, car-sharing, and travel planning for workplaces and schools. The Smarter Choices project is funded directly by the Local Transport Plan partnership.

The Cassie Building is building number 49 on the Campus Map<http://www.ncl.ac.uk/about/visit/printablemaps/map-campus.htm> and is about a 5-10 minute walk from Haymarket metro/bus interchange or Jesmond metro station. Haymarket and Jesmond are both are easily accessible from Newcastle Central station or Newcastle International Airport. The TORG seminars are intended to disseminate ongoing research and encourage detailed discussions of a diverse range of transport topics in an informal environment.
