Two Research Associate posts
Resilience Research Group within the Centre for Transport Studies at
University College London is seeking two research associates on the research
project “Dynamic Responsive Signal Control for Railway Junctions”. The aim
of this work is to develop methods for improved capacity and resilience in
the operation of railway networks. The projects will hire two research
associates:
· Research Associate A in Data Collection and Analysis of Railway
Operations at Junctions and Stations (Ref:1161117)
· Research Associate B in Modelling Railway Operations at Junctions
and Stations (Ref:1161297)
The main duties of Research Associate A will be stakeholder engagement and
data collection in the premises of our industry partners regarding their
current operations. As well as this, the appointee will be responsible for
analysing the resulting data and writing reports to document current
practice and thinking in the industry.
The main duties of Research Associate B will be the development and
calibration of a discrete dynamic simulation model for railway systems, with
a focus on operations at junctions and stations. The appointee will then
develop this simulation to explore novel optimisation strategies, working
with Research Associate A to represent current operating practice and
development opportunities in the industry. Research Associate B will be
responsible for writing reports and for the day to day running of the
project.
The post Research Associate A is funded for 1 year in the first instance
whereas Research Associate B is for 2 years in the first instance. Both of
them are available from 1 January 2011. The posts are full-time with Salary
(inclusive of London allowance) £31,778 - £33,542 per annum. The closing
