Philadelphia University seeks two creative and energetic leaders to serve as its new Academic Deans for the School of Business Administration (SBA) and the School of Design and Engineering (SDE) within the newly formed College of Design, Engineering, and Commerce (DEC). These schools play central roles in the fulfillment of the University's academic potential to explore the relationships of business, engineering, design, and innovation within an integrated education.
Academic Dean of Business Administration
The ideal candidate will be a proven innovator who has the capacity to think broadly about business in social, cultural, political, and economic dimensions. The candidate will be a paradigm shifter who views both business and business education as entrepreneurial opportunities and will be passionate about developing interdisciplinary curricula that bring together the existing and emerging business disciplines in new ways. To this end, the Dean will lead the faculty in the examination of existing programs, a re-conception of the foundational core of business education, and an exploration of collaborative, trans-disciplinary courses in the College of Design Engineering and Commerce that integrate design, engineering, and business and have strong connections to the liberal arts. The goals of the SBA curriculum are to prepare graduates to excel in their discipline and to lead in multi-disciplinary, professional environments with the skills to secure the job opportunities of the day and to lead the emerging fields of tomorrow.
Academic Dean of Design & Engineering
The ideal candidate will be a proven innovator who has the capacity to think broadly about design and engineering in social, cultural, political, and economic dimensions. The candidate will be a paradigm shifter who views both design and engineering as artifact, solution, experience, process, and strategy, and will be passionate about developing interdisciplinary curricula that bring these areas together in new ways. Finally, the ideal candidate will be ambitious and eager to promote the School of Design and Engineering, as well as the College of Design, Engineering, and Commerce to national prominence.
The Dean will be a leader in designing a curricular initiative derived from the University's 2008-2013 Strategic Plan that integrates design, engineering, and business with strong connections to the liberal arts. This initiative will prepare graduates to excel in their discipline and to lead in multi-disciplinary, professional environments with the skills to the secure the job opportunities of the day and to lead the emerging fields of tomorrow. The Dean will also implement key academic initiatives and facets of the Strategic Plan, review and build the faculty, manage the School's budget, and assist in fundraising to help advance both the School and the College.
