We would like to announce that the lottery for student volunteers at CHI2011
is open now and running until Oct 20th at which point we will run the
lottery.
Go to http://chisv.org now and make sure you are enrolled into the lottery.
The deadline is Oct 20, 2010.
It only takes a few moments to register. Make sure your email address is
current because that is how we will notify you of the outcomes and
communicate with you.
Those who are Student Volunteers in exchange for at least 20 hours work are
given free registration and free food during the conference. We need happy,
helpful people, come join us. Meet your next collaborator, some new
friends, and tap into the CHI community in ways that you didn't know were
possible.
In the interest of transparency this is how the process works:
The lottery consists of two parts. Those who are nominated by those serving
the CHI community in key reviewing roles (SC/AC), and those without any
nomination. 60 spots are reserved for those who are nominated, if the
number of nominees is greater than 60 then those 60 have their own random
selection to get a spot. If responses are in line with the growth of recent
years that gives you a better than 1 in 2 chance. Those who are nominated
who don't get one of those 60 spots are then put into the main pool of
people enrolled in the lottery. 60 more spots are then drawn at random from
this pool of everyone who has enrolled and the remainder are then placed on
a wait list. If the response rate is in line with recent year then you will
have a 1 in 80 chance of being selected. In addition the SV co-chairs ask
between 10-15 senior SVs back each year to be day captains and/or floor
monitors. These are experienced people we know we can trust and who are
enthusiastic community builders.
As we move toward the conference date we will add people from the waitlist
to fill up the available spots that we have left as people drop, so there is
always hope.
Those who add their names to the list after the lottery is run will have
their names added to the wait list.
We look forward to serving along side you at CHI to create a fantastic
experience for everyone.
